It’s summer, and you’re taking the family on vacation; everyone is super excited and happy. Heck, even the kids are getting along with each other. Two hours into your 6-hour (possibly 8) drive, boredom kicks in, and the kids are at each other’s throats. One kid is hitting, the other is kicking, and both are crying. You’re pulling your hair out because nothing you say can calm them down. Let’s face it, you’re resisting the urge to duck tape them to their seats like mummies . . . the roll of tape is just in the trunk, so it’s VERY tempting. Fortunately, there is a pacifier to keep them busy until their next nap time.
The Kid’s Awesome Activity Book has loads of creative and artistic activities that will engage and entertain your kids during those long trips, boring visits to Aunt Claire’s, or lazy Sunday afternoons. Created by Mike Lowery, the whole book is illustrated in his iconic style. It’s like an elementary school student doodled this whole book into existence . . . which makes the book so much more relatable for kids.
Okay, I didn’t mean to make it sound like I was slamming Mike’s work in that last paragraph by equating his work to that of a 6th-grader. Your work is enjoyed and greatly appreciated here, Mike.
Inside, there are puzzles, games, crafts, and more. Kids will have fun tackling drawing challenges, making finger puppets, assembling a flip book, completing illustrated comics, giving monsters unique hairstyles, designing their own t-shirt, dreaming up funny pet food packing, helping a vampire find his missing bats, playing a game of tic-tac-toe, completing crosswords, digging through word searches, getting lost in mazes . . . you get the idea. If you’re a fan of Mike’s previous works, you may even spot Carl the duck.
Oh, and did I mention the epic poop-ton of stickers!? Yup; there are over 400 Lowery-style stickers, so expect to see them plastered all over your home, inside your car, and on the cat. The 6 pages of stickers are located in the back of the book, right next to the small fold-out poster. The poster is in full color on one side. Flip it around, and kids have an uncolored version that they can fill in on their own.
The Kid’s Awesome Activity Book is jam-packed with, well . . . activities. Two kids could share a single book, but you’d be asking for trouble. And, it would negate the effect of keeping them quite for an hour or two. Do yourself a big favor, and buy each kid their own copy; they’ll have extra fun comparing their creations.
